Hi, I’m Brendan or Green Bean (as some of the MineClubbers call my character), the heart behind MineClub.
For me, Minecraft isn’t just a game, it’s a creative playground that lights up young minds. It all began when my son, at just six years old (Grade R), and my eight-year-old daughter started playing Minecraft with me. What started as fun family time turned into something amazing: a gateway to learning.
My son was hooked on exploring and building, but soon he wanted to read crafting recipes, type commands. Suddenly, spelling and reading had a purpose, he was learning without even noticing! He picked up computer skills too, figuring out servers and troubleshooting multiplayer hiccups like a pro. Meanwhile, my daughter’s first in-game chats with me became a sneaky way to polish her writing, I’d toss in spelling tips, and she’d soak them up, all while grinning at her screen.
Minecraft showed me firsthand that it’s no ‘mindless’ game. It’s a digital LEGO set, blending creativity, problem-solving, and tech skills into one big adventure. From redstone circuits (think Minecraft’s version of coding) to teamwork in survival mode, it’s packed with lessons, disguised as fun!
So that’s why I started MineClub: to share this spark with other South African kids, right here in Cape Town.
What MineClub Is All About
At MineClub, we’ve turned my home in Cape Town into a cozy computer lab where kids come to play, create, and connect. They dive into custom worlds, like treasure-filled jungles or survival maps, built to inspire imagination and teamwork. Every session is supervised, safe, and small enough for every kid to shine, whether they’re crafting their first tool or mastering redstone contraptions.
But it’s more than playtime. Minecraft helps kids grow, think problem-solving as they navigate caves, engineering as they build towers, and even basic coding through redstone. It’s hands-on STEM learning, South African style, wrapped in a whole lot of fun!”
Growing the Adventure: Homeschool Labs
We’re just getting started! MineClub is gearing up to partner with homeschool groups across South Africa. Imagine mobile labs with computers, custom worlds, and guided sessions that blend learning and play, right at your homeschool’s doorstep. From history-themed builds to teamwork challenges, we’re excited to bring Minecraft’s magic to more young minds. Homeschoolers, let’s make it happen!

Meet the Founders
I’m Brendan, a parent, software developer, Minecraft enthusiast, and believer in learning through play. From gaming with my kids to setting up MineClub, I’m here to make every session epic. As we grow, I’ll be the one crafting worlds, troubleshooting tech, and cheering on every young adventurer!
And this is Symantha my better half, who manages communication with parents, marketing, manages my schedule, makes healthy snacks and keeps everything rolling. Without her, MineClub would not exist.
